Changed Perspective
As a person who came to school to pursue a major in art, Bosson was still indecisive on becoming an animator. Bosson soon had interests in other forms of art such as painting, sculpting, and screen printing. With the inspiration of artists such as Edgar Degas(painter), Joana Vasconcelos (sculpter), Corita Kent (screen printer), and many others, Bosson was quickly able to find passion in all of these forms of art. As seen through many of her works of art, a similar theme that is depicted is that of the human body, mainly women’s body.
In Bosson’s art “Let Love In”, she is clearly trying to stop the hate around the world by depicting ribs with the words “I resist” along with different forms of prejudice and even corruption. Inside the ribs is a heart with “LOVE” coming out of it. The art itself does not have any straight lines, with most are curved to show 3D of the ribs. There are not that many colors in the print but there is a wide variety of colors on each of the words, like “racism” in bright red and “extremism” in yellow, and the heart is colored in red with the words “LOVE” in pink. The colors could have possibly been used to take the audience’s attention.
It is a fact that the world is still full of hate and that there is still discrimination and prejudice going around the world. The title of Bosson’s work speaks for itself, however, I think she is trying to change some people’s perspective through art. In addition to this piece, Bosson created the art “Tide Conditions” which is a real life sculpture of the ocean using trash found in the ocean and plastic bottles as the water. This piece implies the sheer amount of trash found in the ocean and that people should pick up after themselves to not damage the environment. The two similarities of the piece is that people are often seeing these on the news, whether it’s injustice of people or the trash killing the sea animals; Bosson is trying to make a change in the world with her work of art.
I believe that the art “Let Love In” really impressed me especially now in 2020 when the “Black Life Matters” movement is going on. With Bosson’s work being made in 2017, it goes to show that the artist was actually an activist trying to go against hatred and discrimination before the George Floyd incident and the “BLM” becoming more supported. In addition to the “Tide Conditions” piece, I resonated with it because I just recently recycled my plastic bottles I collected for almost a year, and was astonished at how much I had. I was quite frightened and relieved to see that many bottles and can not even imagine if I had not collected the bottles, would it have been sorted out of the trash or tossed aside to end up in the ocean?
